MILTON- Today, Parm Gill, MPP for Milton announced Milton public transit will be receiving an additional $585,000 through phase 2 of Ontario’s Safe Restart Agreement Transit Allocation. This funding will be used to support the Milton transit by mitigating the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our government is committed to supporting municipal transit, and I will continue to champion the needs of our community and transit users as we continue to take strong actions against the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic” said MPP Gill. “I am pleased that Milton transit will be receiving additional funding of up to $585,000 to support safe, reliable public transit that will get people moving, reduce congestion, and drive our economic growth”.

The announcement today builds off Ontario’s first phase investment to the Town of Milton through the Safe Restart Agreement, totaling $460,236, and over $2 million in emergency funding.

“We recognize that municipal transit agencies across the province are facing significant financial challenges as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak,” add MPP Gill. “That is why we are providing more funding to make sure our Town, and our public transit, are supported during these challenging times.”

As the province continues to respond to the impacts of COVID-19, the Government of Ontario has set aside $500 million to be available for additional municipal transit needs.
