MPP GILL LETTER REQUESTING AN ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR PROPOSED REID ROAD QUARRY

Minister Yurek:

I write this letter to bring your attention to the proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry project in
Campbellville, Ontario. This project poses serious threats to the quality of life, health, and
general wellbeing of residents in my riding of Milton.

The residents of Campbellville have been forced to organize quickly to raise awareness about a
new application for a Class ‘A’ Quarry license in their neighbourhood, which, if granted, would
allow for the large-scale blasting and extraction of sand, gravel and bedrock from below the
water table.

This license is being applied for by James Dick Construction Ltd. and although the community
has brought in many experts and filed over 1,100 objection letters, the process leaves many
members in my riding without answers.

Community objections focus on potential negative impacts to water quality and quantity,
damage to the natural environment, physical hazards such as dust and fly rock, increased
traffic, air and noise emissions, diminished property values, inadequate public consultation and
insufficient timelines for review.

I believe it is our government’s responsibility to address these concerns before a decision is
made regarding this license application.

Therefore, I am requesting that you launch an immediate Environmental Assessment of the
proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry project.

Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Parm Gill
