ONTARIO GOVERNMENT IMPROVING SCHOOL IN MILTON

MILTON ON – As part of Ontario’s ongoing efforts to build and improve local schools, Parm Gill, MPP for Milton, is proud to announce a $1.5 million expansion to Rattlesnake Point Public School (formerly known as SW #11).

The school is currently under construction and was approved in 2019-2020 for 770 student spaces and five child care rooms.

This expansion will provide more spaces in a new, quality learning environment for the growing student population in Milton. This project is part of the province’s capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.

“This investment that expands Rattlesnake Point Public Elementary School by six new classrooms is great news for our community,” said Parm Gill, the MPP for Milton. “This is in addition to the 8 new schools and 3 expansions approved in Milton since 2018. This $1.5 million investment will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment in the years to come.”

This is the fourth new expansion in Milton since 2018. The Ontario government has invested over $220 million in capital investments for new schools and school expansions in Milton.

“Working families deserve access to state-of-the-art learning centres with modern ventilation and safety top of mind,” said Minister of Education Stephen Lecce. “By building additional student spaces at the Milton Rattlesnake Point Public Elementary School, our government is responding to the needs of local families as the community continues to grow and helping to prepare students for lifelong success.”

The Ontario government has allocated more than $600 million to support ventilation improvements in schools across Ontario as part of its plans for a safer return to school. The Halton District School Board has benefited from an investment of $12.8 million for ventilation improvements and has 1,539 HEPA filter units in place.

“The Halton District School Board is very pleased that this expansion project has received funding. The learning community of Milton has been patient and supportive throughout this school building process and is appreciative of the support from the government in responding to the needs of our continually growing community,” said Margo Shuttleworth, Chair or Halton District School Board.

“This is an excellent economic investment in the community and a significant commitment to public education,” said Heather Gerrits, Halton District School Board Trustee. “This project will enhance the quality of learning and teaching at Rattlesnake Point Public School and we are appreciative of the support”.

“We are truly grateful for the partnership amongst the stakeholders working with the HDSB to bring this dream to a reality – our Milton Mayor and Town Council, our MPP Parm Gill and Minister of Education Stephen Lecce,” said Donna Danielli, Halton District School Board Trustee.

Rattlesnake Point Public Elementary School will be located at 1385 Kovachik Blvd in Milton and is expected to open in September 2022.
