TAKING ACTION AGAINST REID ROAD QUARRY REOPENING

As many of you in know, there has been an application put forward to reopen the Reid Road Quarry in Campbellville.

I know hundreds of constituents have been speaking out against this project, attending public meetings and helping organize in the community, and I would like to thank you for that.

As the elected provincial representative for Milton, I want to be clear — I stand with the community against this proposed quarry.

The ACTION committee (Association of Citizens Together In Our Nassagaweya), should be commended for their work thus far. They have held a number of large community meetings to raise awareness, raise funds and continue to work tirelessly to organize experts.

Furthermore, over the past eight months, I have met with members of the ACTION committee, spoken directly with many of you, and briefed both the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry and the premier regarding this important issue. I can assure you that I am working hard within our government to protect the best interests of our community.

As you are well aware, this aggregate license application is currently going through the prescribed process and while I understand the desire for an expedited resolution, we must recognize the importance of due process. That being said, I am confident that the process will recognize all negative impacts this proposed quarry will have on our community.

I ask that you continue to stay engaged, continue to reach out to me and I commit to continue to be a strong voice for our community.
