As your provincial representative at Queen’s Park, I would like to say how proud I am of each and every one of you who is helping our community during this extremely difficult time.

You are here for us in this time of need, and our provincial government is here for you. We have launched our Ontario Action Plan — a $17-billion plan designed to help keep you healthy and safe.

It is a plan that supports our health-care system and front-line heroes; it protects our seniors and those most vulnerable; it helps parents and students; and it provides assistance to businesses and employees. We are sparing no expense to make sure our community has what it needs as the COVID-19 situation continues.

The safety and well-being for our community is my primary focus. With the investments outlined in our action plan, we are spending $75 million to provide protective equipment and critical medical supplies, while also expanding our testing capacity to 5,000 tests per day. If necessary, the province has a $1-billion contingency fund dedicated to our health-care system.

To the doctors and nurses, the police and correctional officers, the paramedics and firefighters, the truck drivers and supply chain operators, the farmers and grocery store workers, the construction workers, and everyone practising physical distancing, thank you so very much. Your sacrifice and dedication are keeping us safe.

During this time, we all must remain diligent in our actions to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Actions like regularly washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizer, sneezing and coughing into your elbow, avoid touching your face and, most importantly, staying home as much as possible, are crucial.

If you feel unwell, contact your health-care provider, public health unit or Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.

As our work continues, I will continue to keep you informed. If you would like to receive my community updates, simply let me to know at parm.gill@pc.ola.org.
