MILTON TOWN COUNCIL: EXPEDITE APPLICATIONS TO EXTEND PATIOS

Today, I am proud to announce Halton Region will be moving into Stage 2 on Friday June 19.

As Milton prepares for the next stage of reopening, I have sent a letter to Milton Town Council last week imploring them to take immediate steps to ensure businesses can be ready to reopen. Please find a copy of this letter below.

During these unprecedented times, all levels of government have demonstrated a willingness and ability to work together effectively.

We have heard from many bars and restaurants that, in Stage 2 of reopening, they will need to extend their patio to ensure appropriate physical distance between customers.

In Ontario’s reopening guide, A Framework for Reopening our Province, it outlines our governments support for patio extensions:

“Liquor sales licensees who wish to temporarily extend the physical size of their existing licensed patio, or temporarily add a new licensed patio within the approved period are authorized to do so if…the municipality in which the premises is situated does not object to an extension.”

Today I am calling on Milton Town Council to expedite applications to extend patios. Businesses need our support now more than ever. I implore you, as the head of Council, to prepare Milton to enter Stage 2 and allow for these patio extensions.
